Belongings
Children should bring the following into school every day:
– a coat and bag (labelled clearly with their name)
– a water bottle (labelled clearly with their name) with water inside. PLEASE NO JUICE
– their school reading book and reading record
As we are focusing on developing the children’s independence and sense of responsibility, please remind your child that they are responsible for looking after their belongings.
We thank you for your continued support with this.
Forest School & P.E
Forest School – Every Wednesday afternoon – Children to come to school in their own clothes and bring their forest school kits with them. Named wellies may be left in school so that the children can access areas at OPAL.
Please make sure the clothes and the bags are named
P.E - Monday afternoon – children to come to school in their P.E Kits.
Opal
We will be continuing our OPAL journey in September and have shared with the children ‘OPAL Bingo’. When the Item has been brought in I will put a heart over it. Thank you :).

THANK YOU so much to all the Year 1 children and parents who managed to collect all the items on the OPAL bingo list. Working together, we have collected every item, and the children will get their reward of an extra long OPAL play. Well done Year 1 children and parents :)

At Tanworth we use cursive handwriting. In our handwriting lessons we say to the children that all of our letters start with a ‘little smile’ … the cursive flick. It is very important that children write the little smile correctly, from left to right. This requires a lot of repetition to learn. We are also focus on the correct pencil hold, calling it our 'crocodile snap'.
White Rose Maths
We follow the white rose maths scheme. If you would like to see more about the scheme, including the topics, you can find them here: https://whiteroseeducation.com/parent-pupil-resources/maths/free-downloads scroll to the bottom and click the unit we are on. We are currently on Spring block 2.
White Rose Maths also has an app called 1 minute maths that is a brilliant help to consolidate learning and has fun maths games based on the topics.

Phonics screening check
The phonics screening check is a short assessment that takes place in Year 1 to see how well children can recognise letters and sounds and use them to read words. It includes a mix of real and made-up words (alien words) to check their decoding skills. In school, we will be doing lots of phonics practice to support the children and build their confidence. We kindly ask that parents continue to support this at home by reading regularly with their child and practising the sounds that are sent home.
